Can CaseysDad tell me if care packages can be sent to Casey, and if not what can be done to make his 'stay' a little more comfortable? _________________ It's Not Over 'Til It's Over...Bitch |

Generally the only type of care package would be US Postal Money orders mailed to Tim at the jail in Kentucky. Except for letters, that's about the only thing you can mail into him.
I hope to establish a paypal account shortly to which you can donate. The paypal account will be used to fund things like Casey's audio blogs (they are more expensive to produce then you might think). I hope to have a follow up on this in a week or two. |

Very well. Thank you for the response. I suppose I'll send a USPS M.O. until further news on the PayPal account comes to light. _________________ It's Not Over 'Til It's Over...Bitch |

I know that you guys talked before about sending books into the jail (having to come directly from the publisher) and such while he was in Nashville.
Even if Grayson County doesn't allow general books to be sent in, what about any legal books? What would be the rule regarding legal rules books and the such? |

| We'll check into the details on what Grayson County allows and will post an update soon. |

| They only allow US Postal Money orders. Sorry, but that and letters are the only things that will be able to make it into the jail. |

well that stinks! I guess I should have asked before I mailed (for the second time as it was returned when he moved) a box full of books and magazines lol
Oh well, I guess I'll see soon if I get it returned a second time.
So, regarding money orders, do they need to be made payable to the jail with his name/number on them? which would be better, MO's or waiting until paypal is established?

Money orders need to be US Postal money orders made out to Timothy Richards. Be sure to put the number 25627 somewhere in the address section. That's all that's needed.
I'll be interested to hear if the return the books. The official policy is not clearly documented for this facility. But when to talk to the jail on the phone they seem to be pretty adamant about accepting only letters. |

You were right caseysdad, they did return the box of books. So I googled them and found their phone# and gave them a call. I explained that I was mailing a box of books from a bookstore directly to casey and that the box had been returned twice. I also asked what their policy was and here's what I found out:
During the first 10-14 (they weren't clear) days casey could have received clothing (ie shoes, socks, shirt etc) but after that he can only DIRECTLY receive letters and money orders.
However, there is a way around this regarding books, and that is to mail them to the jail like this
Gail Bashan
Donated books for Timothy Richards #25627
320 Shaw Station Road
Leitchfield, KY 42754
inside the box you include his name and number again.
They explained that this way we're actually donating the books to the jail library, but they put them on hold and casey has the first chance to read them before they're passed to others.
Let's see if this works...

Sounds like a good idea. Keep me intouch with the paypal. That would be the easiest for me. _________________

Cool. Thanks Wil for persevering. Now we know how to get books into Tim. Let us know how this works out in the end. I'm assuming that they won't return them again. (You never know).
PayPal is coming. We have a few account issues to overcome, but soon you will have the ability to donate to Tim (and hopefully Dew) through PayPal in about a week or two.
Thank you all for your continued support. |

|

| We learned something else today. The jail wants US Postal Money orders to be mailed in separate envelopes. This notice was posted on an envelope containing mail that Casey received on Friday. They did take the check and credited it to his account. But from now on we should mail checks separately. |

This is interesting. Am I to understand that the jail opens Casey's letters? I assumed they would x-ray them or scan them however they see fit, but I didn't imagine they opened letters. I suppose I assumed this because they don't open the letters he sends out... Not that it really matters; it's not like I'm going to stop writing him
Oh and by the way, if you talk to Casey, please let him know that I didn't forget about him and that I've been trying to send him a letter/package but it's been returned a few times causing the delay. Thanks in advance

The jail doesn't like large envelopes. 4.5 by 9.5 envelopes are about the max. Anything larger might not make it to Casey and might not be returned to you. It seems to us that the only envelopes that get delayed in delivery, don’t show up at all, or get returned to us are the 8.5 x 11.5 or larger envelopes.
And yes, they do open all his mail to examine it for contraband. They consider return envelopes and stamps to be contraband; I guess primarily because you could be putting some kind of drug into the envelope glue. |

Of course, because that's the size I used to separately mail the letter to Casey
